Born in a close knit community named Lionel Town, bordering on the world famous sugar producing 'Money MuskEstates' in the parish of Clarendon,Jamaica, Kippax was passionate about drawing from an early age, drawing countless portraits on slate, of his paternal grand uncle, Uncle Joe, underneath the family guinep tree. 'Send the boy to draw my picture,'he would often say to my grandmother, his sister, Kippax remembers.
Kippax won an academic scholarship to the prestigious Kingston College in Jamaica's capital city, but passionately pursued his love of drawing when he arrive in New York. There he studied at the School Of Visual Arts in Manhattan and later at the prestigious Art Students League Of New York, with Eugene Sparkman, John Howard Sanden, Ronald Sherr and Peter Homitzky, quickly becoming a life member by popular vote.
